MySQL databases

Your website can use one or more MySQL databases. You find them in the dashboard: Hosting → website name → Databases.

Connecting from your website's code

In the MySQL databases box you find the details for your website's configuration (for example wp-config.php):

  • Host: localhost
  • Database and User: in the list, one per row (database and user have the same name);
  • Password: the one you received when the database was created (see below).

The website's database

The first database in the list, marked site, is the one created with the hosting and used by the website (for example by WordPress). From its ⋮ menu you can Show password. The password is read from the website's configuration, which is why it cannot be changed here.

Create a database

  1. Click + New database.
  2. Database name: lowercase letters and digits. The full name starts with the website's user (e.g. user_shop). The database user has the same name.
  3. Click Create database: the generated password appears only once, copy it straight away.

The number of databases depends on the plan and includes the website's one: when you reach it, the + New database button is greyed out.

Password and deletion

From the ⋮ menu of an added database:

  • Change password: we generate a new one, shown only once. Update the configuration that uses that database straight away, because the old one stops working.
  • Delete: the database and all its data are permanently deleted. To confirm, type the database name.

Viewing and editing data

To look at tables, run searches or import a .sql file use phpMyAdmin: the Manage with phpMyAdmin link is in the same box. See phpMyAdmin.
